While we play players from one event to the other to level our twinks or from one world boss to the next to take advantage of the increased drop chance of rare mounts, the chief developers at Blizzard rush from one interview appointment to the next. Ion Hazzikostas, who was available to us in the interview on WoW: Dragon Flight, is a sought-after man. But also his deputy, the Associate Game Manager Morgan Day, sits more in an interview than at the desk these days.
In an interview with maximum, the guild leader of Liquid, one of the best guilds in the world, there is of course primarily about the raid, loot and the design of the classes. But other things were also discussed. Why you chose focus tests in the beta this time or why a magician talent is the direct episode of a failure of Battle for Zeroth.
We have summarized the most important findings of the interview for you.
Morgan Day in an interview with Liquid guideline chief Max
- The decision on the focus tests fell early in development when you discussed what you expect from Alpha and Beta and what information you wanted to get.
- The base stones in Parthia (splinters of rule) were actually intended as long-term motivation. However, the developers had to recognize that there is a difference between an option and a reinforcement without usable alternatives.
- Therefore, the developers pay more attention to giving the players the choice of how they want to spend their time. A first step is, among other things, the account-wide charge of the upcoming catalyst (animal set production). An adaptation to the large treasury is also in the room to equip it with a kind of catch-up mechanics.
- The treasury between PVP and mythical plus differs on purpose. A system in which the mythical-plus reward is based on the M+classification does not want the devs. You want to stop the players for the hardest content. Do not ensure that you only run many 2s after a 20 stone.
- Season 1 from Dragonflies will have a bravery points limit. How high it will be is not yet clear.
- Even if you can make animal sets, the raid should stay the simplest and, above all, the fastest way to get the set parts.
- The talents are kept in mind during and after the release and, if necessary, adjusted. The easiest can be adjusted here without borrowed power.
- Insert new talents into the tree, the developers prefer to be careful. Because it quickly leads to major problems in the future.
- The decision between utility and DPS is not good. Hence, the two talent trees. However, the problem cannot always be avoided completely.
- There were technical reasons for limiting the talent loadouts. Ten felt like a good number for normal players. Hardcore players would have the know-how anyway and would use add-ons to avoid limitation.
- The goal of Season-affixen in mythical plus dungeons has so far been that the teams had to change the route. Thanks to the new philosophy that all eight dungeons are exchanged in Season 2, this is no longer necessary. Instead, the new Affix should be more demanding and give the groups a lot of space for min-max.
- The developers know that the patch cycle of Shadow lands was not good and have a lot of plans to get better with Dragon Flight.
- The BFA adjustment to put Cooldowns on the global abandonment time should actually devalue the macros. However, it only led us to get other macros and activated several Cooldowns in a row before we were able to harm. That felt bad because the Cooldowns initially did nothing. Arcane waving of the magician is a direct reaction to it and trying to see how it feels when a Cooldown has a high initial effect before it has an increasing effect for a long time. So far, this is well received by the players.
- The developers compare the classes as a whole in balancing and with design-not individual skills. Even if this does similar things, they should still feel different-in God's sign vs. Ice block. If all skills were working straight away, all classes would be almost the same.

What do you think of Morgan Day's statements? Especially with regard to the patch cycle, we probably all agree to him that it was not particularly good in Shadow land. But how much trust can you have in the Blizzard developers? A lot of plans are certainly good, but hopefully they also had them for Shadowlands-and we know what has become of it.
