Sony and Microsoft launched their current generation consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, respectively, in November 2020, and it seems to take a few more years until we see the next consoles of the two giants, as they revealed their future projects And that includes the PlayStation 6.
When are the next generation consoles
The CMA has raised concerns about the impact that the $68.7 billion agreement could have PlayStation's ability to compete, as the merger would allow Microsoft to take over the Call of Duty franchise property.
It is likely that this impact will be felt especially during the launch of the next generation of consoles, where players make new decisions about which console to buy, according to the regulator.
Microsoft told the UK regulator that the next generation of consoles will not be launched for several years and said that any impact of the agreement with Activision is highly speculative.
The parts [Microsoft and Activision] do not dispute that a part of the players will likely reevaluate the property of their console at the beginning of a new generation, says the Microsoft report. [....] This is an event that only happens every eight years or more [...] The next generation of consoles should not be launched by the end of 2028 at least.
No Call of Duty on PS6?
Sony says Microsoft has offered to keep Activision games on PlayStation by 2027 if the acquisition is completed. However, according to Sony, and if the release calendar of the next consoles is confirmed, the PS6 is expected to be released without Call of Duty and other popular Activision games, which could encourage people to move to Xbox and thus make the Less competitive market.
