Fortnite overshield explained: how it works and what it is

Things have changed in Fortnite season 3 Chapter 2, and one of the main changes comes in the way of disabling construction. To help balance this change, Epic Games has introduced a series of mechanics from Fortnite Parkour, such as Tactical Sprinting, as well as Overscudo Fortnite . In this guide, we will explain how this overshield works and what exactly it is so you can use it in your favor in games.

What is OVERSHIELD?

What is OVERSHIELD in Fortnite? How Does it Work? (Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2)

Overshield is essentially an additional layer of 'shield' with which all players begin at the beginning of a match.

It has been introduced into an effort to help players make adjustments in a fortnite in which construction has been deactivated.

It remains to be seen if Overshield will remain instead once the construction mechanics return to the game. However, it seems unlikely given the amount of health and additional protection that this would give.

How OVERSHIELD works in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3

Your level of overshield is indicated by a blue shield icon with a ray in the center to the right of your standard health and shield in the lower left corner of the screen. It is a paler blue and has a lightning effect around it, and we have enclosed it in a circle in the screenshot below.

Your overshield has a maximum of 50 damage you can receive before it runs out.

When you receive damage initially, it will be your overshield that will receive the blows first, instead of your standard shield, or health if you have not yet burst some shields in a game.

However, unlike its standard shield, if it remains out of danger during sufficient time, your overshield will begin to recharge. From our time in the game so far, it seems that you must avoid getting harm for about 5 seconds before your overshield begins to recharge.

The good news is that it means you do not have to look for any specific item to upload your overshield in Fortnite. Just find a cozy hiding place and wait until the shield is refilled again.

That's all you need to know about Fortnite's OVERSHIELD mechanics. To get more tips and tricks, look for Fortnite Parkour or see more of our coverage about the game below.
